I find myself here, now, attuned to the present. I am trying to create new memories, memories that will one day bring me joy. I am done thinking about past pain.
By Manuel Rocha (My son, when he was a child). Markers on white paper.
As I live in the present, I find that the chaos of the world has not affected my mental status; all because my mind is focused on God, my dreams, and the goodness that is present now.
I know that there is a temptation to live in the past–whether good or bad–especially because this season has been hard.
I once had such an amazing experience! So much so that when it ended I tried so hard to replicate those three years and could not in my strength. I fell into depression and gained over 40 pounds.
When I snapped out of it I promised myself I would NEVER again allow myself to get stuck in the past nor in depression because I have a God that can cause NEW and GREATER things to happen.
I realized God uses the past to remind us of His greatness and faithfulness, but He never wants us to live there.
He exhorts us to go to the past for healing, but to live in the now. He exhorts us to enjoy now! And to intentionally seek what He has already begun to do.
This is what God is saying:
“FORGET THE FORMER THINGS; DO NOT DWELL ON THE PAST. SEE, I AM DOING A NEW THING! NOW, IT SPRINGS UP; DO YOU NOT PERCEIVE IT?
I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland. The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland, to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise.”
In the mist of the wilderness, can you see what the Lord has begun to do in your life? Can you perceive it?
