The Lord Speaks to Him
When my son was done readying scripture we discussed his study on Proverbs 1-10, it went something like this:
Me: What resonated with you from your study?
Nico: Ummm, I don’t know, but it’s all good stuff.
Me: Ok, but what jumped out? Something grabbed your heart.
Nico: That, pretty much, to value the instruction of your father and mother. So, in my case, YOU. That, it’s good to stay away from the seductive woman. And…..hold on, let me read it: ‘For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.’ Pro. 3:14-15
Me: Nice. How come that jumped out for you?
Nico: Because, I think God is saying I should listen to you and not dismiss your instruction. Like, your my mom, so I should obey you and appreciate your wisdom. The seductive woman, I think is someone who can make a man fall, it will kill you, ruin your family’s name. It’s interesting.
Me: Yeah, that’s so cool. What about the Proverb you just read?
Nico: I think it’s interesting that wisdom is considered more precious than rubies. So, wisdom is important.
Me: How come?
Silence then CRICKETS………..
Nico: I’m not sure.
Me: Well, let’s think about it. Let’s look at the amplified Bible. It uses the words “profit, gain, compares, and value”. So, God is comparing wisdom with gold and rubies. But wisdom gives you a greater return. Wisdom gives you more gains, more profit than rubies and gold. One block of gold will have you retire for the rest of your life, but God calls wisdom more valuable than that. Why do you thin that is?
Nico: I guess because it gives you the ability to chose better, to live better.
Me: Yes. Perfect. How does this relate to you? Do you know any wise people? Who is the wisest person you know?
Nico: Ummmm, You.
Me: LOL! AWW. Then see how much God loves you to give you a wise mother. Not everyone gets to have a wise mom. But, my pillars and mentors are wiser than me. Some of my friends are as wise as I am. I make sure I surround myself with wise people. God wants us to enjoy Him, our-self and others, life; that’s why he wants us to be wise, to choose well. God loves you so much and He wants you to choose well.
(I showed him the levels of wisdom I know, he was at the bottom).
I then asked, “Do you want to be at the bottom? Or, do you want to grow in wisdom?”
Nico: I want to grow in wisdom (his eyes lit).
Me: Perfect choice! What is a practical way you can obtain wisdom?
Nico: Well, first obey you. Read the Bible. And……………………………………………………….I guess. Get. MennnnTors.
Nico struggles with trusting others. Today, the pastor preached on wisdom and mentors. His teaching was parallel to the discuss we had yesterday. Nico agreed on the way home that God is talking to him, thus challenging him to go against his fear. He said he is going to scope out some male mentors.
