Am I a Child of Christ?

The Lord says that people do whatever they think is right, but do not take into consideration what He desires, plans, or thinks. Judges 17-21 speaks about people who did whatever they thought was right, but did not take God’s opinions into account. Micah was an Israelite who wanted to worship God, thus, made statues out of silver for worship. However, the Lord detests statues that are created as means for worship (Lev. 26:1). He is a jealous God who wants to be worshipped in spirit and in truth. This means you worship Him in your thoughts, your memories, your desires, your plans, your actions, practically in everything you do […]

Building Trust Between the Police and the People: A Community Initiative

Lately, police-community relationships have been deteriorating and racial propaganda has further deconstructed the trust between the police and the community across our nation, which is horrific because these relationships are necessary. Why is it necessary to rebuilt trust between the people and the police? It is important because we need strong communities and without these relationships, tension builds between the two parties causing unsafe communities. When crimes occur and the people do not trust the local police, people are less likely to cooperate in solving a crime, thus allowing for more crime to develop in that community. How do we eliminate mistrust between the community and the local police? Chaplain […]

Our Relationship: The Wheaton Essay

The Bible, God’s Holy Scripture has changed my life. In specific Psalm Seventy-Seven, continuously shows me my imperfections and reveals to me my creator’s perfect sovereignty. Three things I have observed in this Psalm; first, my human rage against a Holy God. Second, remembering God’s amazing deeds takes me back to a humble worship. Lastly, trembling before a Holy God in repentance, binds me deeper to him in trust. Photograph by Ana Barajas My human rage against a Holy God is reflected back to me in Psalm Seventy-Seven. It begins with the poetic words of Asaph, one of Israel’s rulers. He calls upon his God, his creator, “I will cry out […]

Showers in a City

Why did you sent me to a sinful city where I fell In love with its people; only to leave empty handed? What was I supposed to learn from this? Did anyone else benefit from my story? Did I make you proud to call me your daughter? Did I do what you sent me out to do? I thought you took me there to set a flag of victory, but I left empty handed? Did I at least bring you honor? Photograph by Ana Barajas I feel I waisted time and emotions. I feel I lost treasures and so much strength. Did I plant anything of value for you? Did […]

Where Prejudice Begins

I answered the following essay question for a university I applied to, “What effect has being a person of color had on your life, identity and struggles for equality and success?” Although, my complexion is caramel, I have never felt discrimination coming from the exterior forces due to the color of my skin. Until I wrote this paper, I did not realize that interior forces influenced racial and ethnic inequality in my life. I unconsciously adopted my step-father’s prejudice beliefs. First, I was afraid of white people as a child. Secondly, education was never encouraged or praised in my family’s culture, and lastly, my step-father segregated us from other races […]

Why Do People Cheat?

People cheat because they have no identity. They do not know who they are, therefore, do not know what they need or want. They do not know their inmost self. They think they know themselves on the surface, but even this knowledge is scarce. Photograph by: Ana Barajas A grand percentage of people seek a person who is attractive, successful, and someone they can have great sex with. But, what happens when that person does not satisfy them emotionally? They cheat. Emotional satisfaction cannot be found in a person. It can only be found in God. We where made in the image of God, which means we are eternal. God […]

Death Cannot Conquer Us Who Are in Christ!

Jesus came to show us our value as human beings! He came to teach us that humans are the most beautiful creation of the entire universe. Ultimately, Jesus came to die to deliver us from our sinful nature. Christ died to make way for us, to access the Holy Spirit and so that we don’t go to hell. When Jesus died his disciples crumbled. They lost faith and hope, they were afraid to be captured, but on the third day when Jesus rose, when He resurrected, His disciples became strong! Everything Jesus taught them became a reality, it became tangible. Once Jesus resurrected His disciples learned who they were and […]

Captain of My Soul

Photograph by: Ana Barajas Imagine bargaining with the devil. He will use every argument to make you believe you belong to him. He will say you are worthless and hopeless. He has the power to convince you to take your life away. Some do. Some people hand over their souls. It may be through drug addictions, pornography, sexual abuse, or contemplating suicide. Then, that is their end. They have made the devil the captain of their soul. Don’t bargain with Satan! He will convince you to make him your captain. Everyday Satan will attempt to speak with you. Don’t! Imagine that in Satan’s attempt to bargain with you, you call […]

The Purpose for Your Life

Jesus had a purpose for what He was born; to come and teach us His ways, so we could have forgiveness from the Father for our sin, and to resurrect so that we could have eternal life. But, Satan tempted Jesus with an offer that seemed grand and glorious. Satan offered Jesus riches and power if He would worship him. He placed all the kingdoms of the world on silver platter for Jesus to take. Did Jesus have the characteristics and skills to rule the kingdoms of the world. Of course He did! He was wise, intellectual, and could perform many miracles, He was the Son of God. Satan knew […]
